Affordable and Subsidized Housing
Affordable housing provides rental or purchasable units with rents or prices based on income and assets. Subsidized rental housing is available only to low-income people and is subsidized by the Federal Government (HUD). There is usually a substantial waiting list..
Princeton Township Affordable Housing
Princeton Township's commitment to Affordable Housing provides housing opportunities for a broad range of households from diverse social and economic backgrounds. Income-based programs offer properties throughout Princeton Township for purchase and for rent.
The Affordable Housing purchase program is available in two Princeton Township communities. Washington Oaks, on 206 South, is a community of 300 single family homes, townhomes and condominiums. Sixty of the one-, two- and three-bedroom condos are marketed to low- and moderate-income purchasers. The Township also offers Affordable Housing resales at Griggs Farm, on 206 North at Cherry Valley Road. This community consists of 70 one- to three-bedroom moderate-income resale units interspersed with market-price townhomes and low-income rental apartments.
In both communities, the purchase price of an affordable property is based on the proposed purchaser's gross household income. In order to purchase, an applicant must be able to meet the Township's qualifications, and to be able to obtain a mortgage from a lending institution. The income range is from approximately $20,000 for a one-person household to $73,757 for a family of six. For more information, please call the Affordable Housing Coordinator at 609-688-2029.
