AGE-RESTRICTED RETIREMENT COMMUNITIES
Adult retirement communities are designed for those 55 (or 62) years of age or older who wish to live independently within a community of seniors. These are commonly town homes(TH), clusters of single family homes(SF) or apartments/condos (A), and may be either bought or rented. Many are advertised as"active adult" or “resort living,” organized around a golf course or club house. The monthly fee usually includes some maintenance and amenities, such as organized social and recreational programs. Social, health and transportation services are usually not included and many are not on public transportation lines. Residents are expected to be self-sufficient.
New communities are opening every year, so it is difficult to maintain a comprehensive list. Developers of new communities have an on-site sales office until all units are sold. After that, re-sales are handled through real estate agents. After hours of looking up phone numbers and websites, and then finding that many were no longer active, we have decided that we can not accurately list contact information. At present, no age-restricted communities exist within Princeton, although one is near approval. The following are some adult communities in the vicinity of Princeton:

INDEPENDENT LIVING RENTALS
It is important to understand the differences between market rate rent, where the landlord charges what the market will bear, affordable, where rent is based on income and assets, and subsidized, which is available only to low-income people and is subsidized by government funding. All of the housing listed above is sold or rented at market rate.
Affordable/Subsidized
There has been much discussion of building affordable senior housing in Princeton as current options are limited. For some of the options that are available in the area, see Affordable & Subsidized Housing.
Congregate Housing
In addition, some communities offer congregate housing. An individual rents a private (or semi-private) room and eats meals in a communal dining room. Laundry, housekeeping and some support services are available. There is a non-medical staff person on duty part or all of the day. Such “Comprehensive Personal Care Homes” are licensed by the Department of Health. Elm Court includes congregate housing. There are no known boarding homes in Princeton, but they exist in surrounding communities such:
