Medicaid
Medicaid is a Federal medical assistance program for the needy administered by the State of New Jersey. It covers most hospital, medical and prescription expenses.
To apply for Medicaid, call the Mercer County Board of Social Services (609) 989-4664, 200 Woolverton St. CN01450, Trenton, NJ 08650. Appointments for Medicaid applications can be made on Wednesdays at the University Medical Center at Princeton. Call (609) 497-4229.

MEDICAID for INSTITUTIONALIZATION (Nursing Homes)
To qualify for nursing home benefits an applicant must meet not only financial criteria, but also medical necessity requirements. Each of these eligibility processes is complex and must be evaluated according to the applicant's individual circumstances.
- Eligibility: 65 or older, blind, disabled.
- Income limits - maximum monthly income $1,500, or if income greater than $1,500, but assets are less than $2,000, may still be eligible

SPECIAL MEDICAID PROGRAMS
Community Care Program For The Elderly And Disabled(CCPED)
CCPED is a special Medicaid waiver program which offers an array of home care services. Its intent is to help eligible individuals aged 65 and over to continue to reside in the community rather than entering a nursing home. Services include visiting nurse, prescription plan, social worker, therapists, medical day care, medical transportation, home health aide, social adult day care, and respite care. It does not pay for in-patient hospital stays or doctor visits.

Medically Needy Medicaid
Program provides some medical benefits for needy individuals who may not be able to afford health care services but have income or assets too high to qualify for regular Medicaid program. It allows the individual to spend down outstanding medical bills. It does not provide full Medicaid coverage.
- Services: Home health aides, eyeglasses, hearing aids, doctor, dentist, clinics, transportation, medical day care. Not full Medicaid.
- Eligibility: 65 or older, blind, disabled, child under 21, or pregnant

Global Options (GO)
- Extensive list of in-home services. Available after discharge from skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility. Application must be made by the facility prior to discharge.
