Pharmaceutical Assistance


AARP PHARMACY SERVICE

PHARMACEUTICAL ASSISTANCE TO THE AGED & DISABLED (PAAD)

SENIOR GOLD

These are both state-funded prescription programs, which help eligible NJ residents pay for prescription drugs (including insulin, insulin needles, certain diabetic testing materials and syringes, and needles for injectable medicines used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis).

  • Eligibility: NJ resident, over 30 days with permanent address, aged 65 and older, or at least 18 years of age and receiving Social Security Disability benefits
  • PAAD cardholders pay $5 per prescription. People who are eligible for PAAD may also be eligible to receive other benefits such as Lifeline, which provides assistance for utility bills, Hearing Aid Assistance to the Aged and Disabled, reduced motor vehicle fees, property tax freeze, and discounts from Verizon and AT&T.
    • Income Eligibility for 2006:
    • Single: $21,850
    • Married: $26,791
  • Senior Gold cardholders pay $15 plus 50% of the remaining cost for each prescription. When annual out-of-pocket expenses exceed $2000 for single persons and $3000 a year for married couples, each prescription costs only $15.

  • 10-50% discounts for eligible residents
  • Many pharmaceutical companies have a program to provide medications to those unable to pay. An application must be submitted by your physician to the company.
