Engaged Retirement - Beyond Financial Planning

84 million Boomers will reach retirement age over the next 20 years. Traditional retirement is vanishing as people start second careers, blend work and leisure, engage in lifelong learning, and donate their skills and talents to organizations they believe in. The Princeton Senior Resource Center's Engaged Retirement Program is a three pronged effort:

First, to help these Boomers prepare for an active and satisfying retirement that could last as long as 30-40 years. This effort goes beyond the typical financial planning workshop to include all issues of lifestyle, emotional and physical health, family and time management.

Second, to help community organizations discover ways to attract and retain this new generation of potential volunteers, who have a wealth of skills, education, experience and vitality to offer.

Third, to work with local companies in developing programs to utilize the skills, experience and education that retirees have to offer to employers. This phase will begin in 2009.

Engaged Retirement workshops are available to:

•  Individuals who are seeking a framework they can use to plan their retirement years.

•  Businesses or community organizations that would like to offer the program as a benefit to their employees and to develop new ways to retain valuable older workers or to attract volunteers with valuable skills.

Workshops and services offered include:

Engaged Retirement Starter Seminar: this 90 minute workshop gives an overview of the many issues involved in retirement planning and helps attendees begin to build their retirement plan.

Engaged Retirement Program: This series of classes will help attendees envision and plan the retirement of their own design. Classes will include exercises, discussions and in-depth presentations by professionals in retirement and financial planning, civic engagement, making a mark on the world, and physical and mental well-being.

Lunch & Learn Workshop for employers: An opportunity to help your employees plan for retirement. You provide lunch; we provide the program!

For community organizations whose volunteers are the heart and soul of the organization: work with an Engaged Retirement consultant to discover ways to attract and retain a new generation of volunteers to keep the organization dynamic into the future.

For more information on Engaged Retirement workshops and services, contact Susan Hoskins or Carol King at the Princeton Senior Resource Center, 609-924-7108.

Engaged Retirement has been funded in part by generous grants from the Princeton Area Community Foundation and the New Jersey Foundation on Aging.
