Errol Morris, documentary filmmaker, wrote “Photographs can reveal something to us, and they can also conceal things.” Today, we are bombarded by news, some true, some fake. “The truth is out there,” promises the X-files. Can we find that truth in documentary films? Watch some extraordinary films that challenge your sense of right and wrong, of what is real and what is false: Newsreel Collective Films, Harvest of Shame, Black Panthers, Primary, High School, Shirley Chisholm ‘72: Bought and Unsold, Shirley Clark’s Portrait of Jason or Ornette, Made in America, The Thin Blue Line, and Weiner.
Leader: Judith Zinis has taught film studies at Ocean County College and as a Fulbright Scholar at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece.
