In this lecture course, we will discuss the origins of the right to privacy, the Second Amendment, suffrage, eugenics, and the free exercise of religion—all in the context of Supreme Court opinions that have addressed these issues. We will focus on the Constitution, the common law as well as judicial decision-making as the source of these rights. (Four of the lectures have been presented in prior classes).
