11:30 AM Japanese Art: Lectures and Discussions – Evergreen Forum (PSRC)
October 17, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 1:30 pm
In four two-hour lectures, I will discuss Japanese woodblock prints, lacquer, inro/netsuke, okimono and paintings. Each session will include a discussion of the historical, political, technological and economic forces that propelled the art form, and the technical process used to create the resulting art form. Numerous examples will be used to illustrate the range of art forms within each of the discussed areas. Examples will include both projected images and actual demonstration objects. Since many of the images used to illustrate the art forms are related to historical events or mythology, the significance of the illustrated art will be discussed in terms of pertinent myths and history.
