BECOME AN INSTRUCTOR/FACILITATOR

Interested in Becoming an Evergreen Forum Leader?

One of our most popular programs is Evergreen Forum. The success of the program is predicated on securing course instructors and facilitators who are selected by the Evergreen Forum Steering Committee. These course leaders are often retired faculty, teachers or experts in their field.

They are often retired faculty, teachers, or experts in their fields. While Evergreen Forum calls Princeton, NJ its home, participants come from all across the country, and even the world to take our courses!

There are two semesters of Evergreen Forum taking place in the fall (typically beings the last week of September) and spring (typically begins the first week of March) with each semester spanning anywhere from three to eight weeks. Courses span from straight lecture to discussion based and can take place in-person, virtually on Zoom, or as a hybrid to meet the varying needs and interests of our participants.

The Evergreen Forum is always looking for new leaders or instructors! Interested? Let us know!

OFFICE VOLUNTEERS

Become part of our welcoming committee

Are you an outgoing person who likes to interact with and help others? You’re exactly the type of person we need at our front desk. As a front desk volunteer, you’ll be the first point of contact for anyone visiting our center. And we know you’ll make a great first impression. In addition to greeting folks at our welcome window, you’ll also be tasked with answering the phone, responding to inquiries, making copies, light filing, and general office duties.

Our front desk volunteers are beloved by all, especially CMAP staff who appreciate you making their days even brighter.

There are two half-day volunteer shifts:

Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Monday through Friday 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.

If you’re interested in joining our dynamic team of volunteers, contact Sharon Hurley, volunteer coordinator, at shurley@cmaprinceton.org.

HOME FRIENDS

Knock, knock we’re here

Home Friends is a visitor program we created in response to a growing need for companionship and support for home-based older adults and adults with disabilities in Princeton and nearby communities. This visiting program was designed to complement and support rather than replace the role of family and paid caregivers.

Home Friends buddies engage in a variety of things during weekly home visits such as: going on walks, reading and sorting mail, exchanging stories about life experiences, or pursuing mutually shared interests. Some volunteers bring library books, share a movie, or help weed in the garden with older adults.

How does the Home Friends Program work? Volunteers are interviewed, trained, background checked, and matched for such things as background, common interests, and geographical location. Home Friends recipients meet with their friend an hour or more per week. There is no charge for this service.

How can I enroll in the program? Any person over fifty-five years of age who needs companionship and who resides in the Princeton area is eligible for this program. Priority is given to those without other local sources of support, such as family or residential community staff.

If interested in receiving Home Friends services for yourself or a loved one, you can complete the online interest form.

“I feel it’s always good to have a reason to get up in the morning. Volunteering brings you out and make connections and makes you feel you are still contributing to society.”
